How to take care of your handmade jewelry
Wearing handmade
jewelry gives you an unique look and a special
feeling, but the fact that these jewelry are made from common metals makes them
delicate and sensitive to water, chemicals and make-up.
Exposing
your jewelry to these factors will make them tarnish and even brake in time.
This
is what you can do to keep your handmade jewelry looking like new for a longer
time:
- Don’t expose handmade jewelry to water. Take them off when you shower, swim in the pool or wash your hands (bracelets or rings). If they get wet, clean the water with a dry piece of cloth.
- Don’t use any detergents to clean the jewelry. In time the metal parts can get a “vintage” look and gems may get dirty from make-up and body lotions, use a dry cotton cloth to gently clean the surfaces.
- Try to protect the jewelry from hair spray, make-up and perfume.
- Don’t sleep with your jewelry on, they may break !
- A correct storage is also very important. Never store your handmade jewelry in the open air, as this will make them tarnish faster. Use a jewelry box, small plastic bags or protective coatings for individual items. Silvered jewelry should always be stored separately from bronze or cooper.
Using these simple
steps will help you keep your handmade jewelry shiny for years.
